Tombstone Tuesday~Wade family~Brick Mill Cemetery
These before and after images are of Wade family Ancestors who have been laid to rest within the Brick Mill Cemetery near Richlands, Onslow County, North Carolina.
This cemetery is the largest all African American cemetery within the county. Unmarked graves are being re-discovered on a monthly basis and preliminary findings suggest in excess of 1000 graves are within this one cemetery.

This grave, within the Wade family plot, was never properly covered with sufficient soil. Donated dirt from the Powell trucking company of Richlands is being used to stabilize all sunken and unkempt graves within this and other cemeteries under the care through Resurrection Mission.

Thanks Taneya for your comments. Searching, stabilizing and then caring for these cemeteries is hard work but, well worth the cost in my physical labor, time and money.

Family oral history suggest the Brick Mill Cemetery was established in 1900, when the grandfather purchased the land.
I believe, however base on some preliminay evidence that more precise date to be ca.1890.
The cemetery is still in use today for immediate direct descendents who are laid to rest. The last burial was in October 2009. She was 96 and was laid to rest next to her parents and late husband.

That is awesome work that you are doing. We've had some 'interesting' incidents concerning old cemeteries in our county, and making sure they were returned to being cemeteries from farmland, etc., and for others to remain cemeteries.
