Tombstone Tuesday- - African American Spanish-American War Veteran

____________

Image:

The late James Blackwell, Pvt, U.S. Army, is the only confirmed African American Spanish-American War veteran known to have lived in Onslow County, North Carolina. He was raised in the Swansboro region of the County.

Until officially researched by myself, through Resurrection Mission, his legacy was only known to a few of his direct descendents.

Let us take a moment to ponder the social actions of Pvt. Blackwell's day and try to understand his reasons for serving a Country, to protect certain Freedoms that he did not have the right to share fully for himself.

Semper Fi !

Comments:
Thanks for your research on Pvt Blackwell especially in ensuring his lagacy lives and his story told. Look forward to reading about more of Pvt. Blackwell

Sanjay,
Thank you for your kind words. I will be posting additional tombstones, and other material, in regards to African American military Veterans.

As you so wisely commented; their stories must be told.

Thank you again,
Jack
