Tombstone Tuesday~~Finding a sunken grave marker
Discovering a sunken grave marker:
Removing the "known" surface carefully with a metal shovel.
Notice the one inch root.
Removal of soil reveals a grave marker.
Located, roughly, nine inches below "known" surface.
Closer view of discovered grave marker.
Removal of all soil, by hand, with use of wooden tools.
Louisa's grave marker; located roughly eleven inches under ground.
Thanks for all of your kind words of encouragement. Much appreciated.
This cemetery, Marshburn family, is located just outside of Richlands, Onslow County, North Carolina. The family, as the local oral history goes, "died" out in the first half of the 20th Century.
The family plantation was finally sold for $$$$ and the vast open fields are now beginning to grow subdivisions and roads.
Thanks for stopping by my site. I update my blog on a regular basis.
